How we actually deliver Virginia support
Let’s get the important part out of the way first, because plenty of providers are cagey about it.
We have two offices: our headquarters in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts, and a small office in the Richmond area. Onsite work in Virginia goes out from the Richmond office, and our onsite radius is about 150 miles from it. That reaches the Richmond metro, Hampton Roads (roughly 100 miles), and Northern Virginia (roughly 115 miles). It is a small office, not a building full of technicians, and you should know that before you sign, not after.
Most of the work does not depend on either office. The large majority of small-business IT has nothing to do with proximity. Remote monitoring and management, patch management, endpoint security, Microsoft 365 administration, backup verification, user onboarding and offboarding, and helpdesk tickets all happen over the network. An engineer three miles away and an engineer six hundred miles away do that work identically, so the whole team, in both offices, works your tickets. We are also in your time zone, so our 8:00am-6:00pm window lines up with your business day rather than trailing it by three hours.
What remote cannot do: run cable in a new suite, rack a server, or physically replace a dead switch. Inside the radius, that work goes out from the Richmond office. We schedule it and tell you what is included and what is billed before anyone gets in a car. Outside the radius, in Roanoke and Southwest Virginia, physical work is a planned trip, quoted up front. If your environment has a lot of aging on-premises hardware that needs frequent physical attention, tell us in the first conversation. We will tell you honestly whether one small office can keep up with it.
Cloud-first is the natural fit
Because most of our work is delivered remotely, we have a strong bias toward infrastructure that does not depend on anyone driving anywhere. That is not a limitation dressed up as a virtue; it is genuinely where most small businesses should be heading regardless of who supports them.
For Virginia clients that usually means honest IT infrastructure planning before anything gets purchased, then a deliberate path — sometimes full cloud migration, sometimes hybrid cloud where a specific application genuinely has to stay local, and ongoing cloud infrastructure management once you are there. A business whose systems live in Azure, Microsoft 365, or a properly managed hosted environment does not care where its IT team sits. A business with a fifteen-year-old server in a closet cares enormously.

Does RNITS have an office in Virginia?
Yes. We work from an office in the Richmond area, and onsite visits for Virginia clients go out from there. It is a small office, not a big branch, and we would rather tell you that plainly. Our headquarters and the rest of the engineering team are in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts. Monitoring, security, Microsoft 365, and helpdesk are delivered remotely by the whole team, the same way they are for our New England clients. When a job needs hands on hardware within about 150 miles of Richmond, someone comes to you from the Richmond office.
How does a Massachusetts-headquartered company support my Virginia business properly?
Most small-business IT does not need anyone in the building. Monitoring, patching, security tooling, Microsoft 365, backups, user onboarding, and helpdesk are all delivered over the network, wherever the engineer sits. We are in the Eastern time zone, so our 8am-6pm coverage matches your business day. The physical work, like cabling a new suite, racking a server, or swapping failed hardware, is handled from our Richmond-area office. That covers Richmond, Hampton Roads, and Northern Virginia. If you are farther out than that, ask us about physical work specifically before you sign.
Does the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act apply to my small business?
Almost certainly not. The VCDPA only kicks in at 100,000 Virginia consumers per year, or 25,000 consumers if more than half your gross revenue comes from selling personal data. Very few small businesses come near either number. What usually does apply is industry-specific: HIPAA for medical and dental practices, Gramm-Leach-Bliley for financial firms and title agencies, PCI DSS if you take cards, and DFARS/NIST 800-171 if you touch defense contracts. We would rather point you at the rule that actually binds you than sell you fear about one that does not.
