Surprise Invoices

The Thesis

The MSP industry has a sales problem. We don't.

Most managed service providers make their money on tools you don't need, contracts you can't escape, and surprise invoices for "out of scope" work. The whole model is built to upsell — not to solve problems.

We rebuilt it. We look at what you actually need, tell you what we'd cut, and put it in writing. If your current setup is fine, we'll tell you that too. We'd rather lose a deal than oversell one.

That's what we mean by un-MSP.

The Picture

From bloat → to right-sized.

Most SMBs we audit have a stack that looks like the column on the left: overlapping, half-used, every line item a separate bill. Our job is to get you to the column on the right.

Typical MSP stack

9-15 tools. All billable.

Multiple endpoint agents. Two backup vendors. Three monitoring platforms. Half are unused. All on the invoice. "Industry standard," they'll say.

Right-sized with RNITS

4-6 tools. What you need.

One endpoint agent. One backup. One monitoring stack. Each tool earns its place. If it stops earning it, we cut it — and the bill.

The Receipts

Typical MSP vs. RNITS

Pricing is intentionally not on this list — we want you to compare on substance. Our pricing is published openly at /plans/.

Typical MSP RNITS
Onboarding 1-2 weeks of paperwork, kickoff calls, audits before anything starts 24-48 hours from signed agreement to fully managed
Contract 3-year lock-in, auto-renewing, painful to exit Month-to-month. Leave when you want, no penalty
Tool stack 9-15 tools billed line-by-line, called "industry standard" Right-sized. Only what your business actually uses
Cybersecurity Add-on tier, sold separately, often optional Foundational. Built into every engagement, not bolted on
Communication Ticket queue, tier-1 triage, escalation theater Direct line to the engineer working your account
Reporting Quarterly slide deck full of green checkmarks Live status, monthly review, plain-English summary
Sales tactic spicy FUD — "you'll get hacked if you don't buy this" Gap analysis. We show the risks, you decide what to fix
Vendor lock-in Tied to one or two vendors, your data isn't portable Multi-vendor. Your data and tooling stay yours
Out-of-scope work Surprise invoice next month, no heads-up Quote first. Always. Before we start the work
If we're not a fit spicy "Let's get you signed today" anyway We tell you. Sometimes we recommend a competitor
The Exit Clause Is Your Power

Leave us anytime. Most don't.

Every RNITS engagement has an out clause. No contract works too. Almost everyone who tries us stays — and the few who've left came back.

Out clause in every contract

Hate us? Leave. Every RNITS agreement has an exit clause — no penalty, no fight, no questions. The only contracts you can't escape are vendor agreements we inherited from your old MSP — and we'll help you migrate those out too.

No contract at all? Also fine.

If you don't want anything on paper, we'll work with you handshake-style. Some of our longest client relationships have never had a written contract. We earn the next month every month.

~100%

Retention. And boomerangs.

Almost no one cancels. The handful who tried another MSP came back within a year — usually after realizing what they had. We don't say this to flex. We say it because the model works.

Want proof before you sign? We'll hand you names and phone numbers of current clients. Call them yourself — no sales-rep filter, no curated quote sheet.

What we won't do

Anyone can list services. Here's what we'll never put on your invoice.

We won't sell tools you don't need

If your team doesn't use it, it's not on the bill. Period.

We won't lock you in

Month-to-month, always. If we're not earning the renewal, you shouldn't have to fight to leave.

We won't surprise you on invoices

"Out of scope" work gets a quote first — every time. No after-the-fact line items.

We won't FUD-sell you security

We show the actual gaps. You decide what to fix. We don't manufacture fear.

We won't drag onboarding for weeks

If we can be live in 48 hours, why are you waiting two weeks?

We won't tell you we're a fit if we're not

If your situation calls for someone else, we'll say so — and point you to one.

The Honesty Pledge

Send us your stack. We'll send back the truth.

Your current MSP contract. Your tool list. Your last security assessment. We'll review it for free and send back a plain-English report — what's working, what's overpriced, what's missing. If we're not the right fit, we'll tell you who is.

What honest looks like in practice

Three SMBs. Three different problems. One pattern: we cut what wasn't earning its place.

Our Promise

Why we built RNITS this way

We watched too many SMB owners get sold tools they didn't need by MSPs they couldn't escape. The model rewards upsell, not outcomes. So we built a different one — transparent pricing, no contracts, honest reviews even when they cost us the deal.

If your current setup is working, we'll tell you that. If it's not, we'll tell you that too — and what to do about it. That's the deal.

FAQ

The questions you're already asking

How do I know if my current MSP is overcharging me?
Ask for an itemized list of every tool they bill you for and how many of your team actively use each one. The gap between what you pay for and what you use is usually 30-50% in our experience.
What's the difference between an MSP and an un-MSP?
A typical MSP makes more money the more tools and tiers they sell you. We're built the opposite way — we make money keeping your stack tight and your invoices predictable. Different incentives, different outcomes.
What questions should I ask any MSP before I sign?
Three questions cut through fast: (1) Show me an itemized invoice — no bundles. (2) What's your contract exit clause? (3) Walk me through the last time you told a prospect you weren't a fit. The answers tell you everything.
How fast can RNITS onboard us?
24-48 hours from a signed agreement to fully managed. Most MSPs take 1-2 weeks because of internal handoff theater — we don't do that.
Do you require long-term contracts?
No. Every RNITS agreement has an exit clause — leave anytime, no penalty, no questions. If you don't want a contract at all, we'll work with you handshake-style. Some of our longest clients have never signed anything. We earn the next month every month. The only contracts you can't escape are vendor agreements we inherited from your previous MSP, and we'll help you migrate those out too.
What if I'm not happy with you in 6 months?
You leave. No fight, no penalty, no "let me transfer you to retention." We hand you back your data, your tooling, and your contacts — portable, multi-vendor by design. Most clients don't leave (retention is near 100%), but the door's always unlocked.
Can I talk to your current clients before I decide?
Yes. We'll give you names and phone numbers of clients in your size range or vertical. Call them directly — no sales-rep on the line, no curated quote sheet. Ask whatever you want.
What does RNITS NOT do?
We don't sell hardware-as-a-service markups. We don't run break-fix arrangements (because we prevent breaks). We don't take referral fees from vendors that would bias what we recommend.
